"welcome to watercolors"

background

In this lesson students are introduced to a new medium. The way that watercolor handles will help prepare them for times when other mediums may not do what they want. Students must learn to let that process happen as it happens and accept that it makes their artwork more unique and special. Letting go of perfectionism is important for every artist since all mediums have their own particularities.

teacher samples

Before presenting the lesson to the students, I created a template for them to use for watercolor swatches. The templates defined hue, value, tint, and shade with squares for them to fill with paint.

As the students were coming into the classroom, I had them fill out a Google Poll to gauge their interests with art mediums.

A paper copy was also used for those without a device or technical issues.
