two dimensional
spring 2019
intro to 2d
In this studio course, I experimented with mainly paper and how I could manipulate paper with other mediums to change how art can be made and viewed. We explored different types of compositions and the importance of a thoughtful composition. We used paint, collage, and paper cutting to get comfortable with non-traditional methods of two dimensional art.

For this project, we were to choose a piece of art and carefully observe the shapes, forms, colors, and textures that the artist utilized or created. From there, we were to recreate the artwork with collage. I chose Gustav Klimt's Baby (Cradle), 1917, to replicate. I focused on the colors that Klimt used in his painting and exaggerated them with clippings from magazines. The focal point of my piece, and Klimt's, is the infant sitting atop the pile of clothing. A pulled apart cotton ball helps bring the eye to the blank face of the baby.
